The celebration is to mark the triumph of good against evil, of which certain devotees would fast for a long period of time and on the day itself will pay homage to their Lord by piercing their bodies and bring "kavadi".

The celebration is gaining the popularity and it becomes a tourist attraction.

Devali or over here we spelt it as Depavali is the celebration of lights. It's being celebrated in the month of November. As opposed to Thaipusam, which is only a public holiday in a few states, Devali is a public holiday in Malaysia.
