Writer's block

According to The Free Dictionary by Farlex, a Writer's block (n) is a usually temporary psychological inability to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.

This is what I usually experience whenever I sit in front of my computer and try to write something. Many times, it gets very frustrate to a point that I just quit staring at the computer and go to Happy Farm instead. (Happy Farm is a farming game on… Continue

Writing Practice - A dangerous experience with my car

It was a regular working morning. Cars lined up bumper to bumper on the street as if they were on an assembly line. Like every other morning, I was listening to 94.5 FM on my crappy radio. Waiting for my turn to get on to the bridge, I rolled down the window for some fresh cold January air. Suddenly, a burning smell, very much like the one when I burn my hair dryer, sneaked into my nostrils. I didn't give the smell much of attention as it was already my turn to get on the bridge. Hurriedly, I ac… Continue

Tell me about yourself

Dear friends,

Since I am still so new in the EnglishClub, I don't know everyone too well. And it is a bit difficult for me to go through all the posts of everybody.

I want to know you, so please take some time to answer the following questions that I created.

1. Can you briefly describe the city you live?

2. Do you have a pet? If no, do you want a pet? What kind of pet?

3. What’s your favourite colour?

4. What are your all-time favorite movies?

5. What are your favourite foods? Or dishes… Continue

Hi!

This is my first English blog.

I have signed up English Club couple days ago but had no courage to write anything in my own blog. Not only because I am not confident enough to do so, I also have no idea what I can write about.

Determined to improve my English writing, I have registered in an online writing class - Writing for ESL in my community. Many people suggested that writing everyday will improve writing skill. And that is why I am here, trying my best to squeeze some words out of my dry… Continue

Introduction to the Class

Hi Everyone,

I have loved writing on any kind of topics and reading Chinese literature since I was a child. I've lived in Canada for so long that no one believes that I still struggle in English writing. For me, English used to be just another homework from school. After l left school, I was so happy that I didn't have to write essays or anything in English anymore. In my mind, writing was only for school.

After working for many years, I find that writing skill is so important in communicating… Continue

Hi,

Yeah, it’s a good coincidence about the choice of your trip to New York.

I fund the subway system more simple than Paris’ subway. The New York subway is enough straight. For the subway lines that go to the North of Manhattan the direction indicated is “up town” and to the south “down town”.

If is the first time than you’ll go to New York, I advice you:
The Statue Of Liberty, Ellis Island and Ground Zero. When I visited these three sites and monuments, that filled me with full of moving feeling.
From the top of The Empires State Building, you could see a beautiful view of New York. Go it during the morning week, because there are many tourists.
The Intrepid is an interesting tour. This is an aircraft carrier that had functioned during the Second World War. On the deck, you could see several jets.
And to conclude, you mustn’t avoid The MET (The Metropolitan Museum of Art). I had found it bigger than the Louvre in Paris and with many different cultures (Asian, Egyptian, Islamic, Medieval Art…).

With my wife, we spent really a good moment in this town.
When will you go to New York?

Bye,
Nicolas

Hi! I sure remember you! It would be nice to visit your country but I am not planning that because.... if I come to your continent I will sure go to the US and I don't want that. Let it all be my memories!

Hi Schizocat,

I came back to my holiday in New York & Houston 22 August. The Metro system is enough different in New York: the temperature in August in the Subway is hot. Fortunately the carriages have air conditioned. The streets in Manhattan were drawn on a grid and the direction of the subway is in line.

I have never been to Canada. One day, perhaps, I hope :o). Like you, I love snow. In my area, the thickness of snow is about 15centimeter maximum. But if I drive 1,5 hour into Vosges, there is more snow always winter and I practice snowboard.

Take care.

Hi! I am back! I was at the Black Sea shore. The name of the place is Sudack. It is located at the Eastern part of the Crimean penninsula, just at the sea. It is a very old town. One can still see a fortress there that is about 10 centuries old. I like that place. The sea is so clean and deep there! Besides there are so many dolphines and I like to swim and play with them in the open sea.

Sure, I know geography well enough! I know where you live and where you are originally from. I was in Canada when I lived in the US. I was in Toronto, Ottava and Niagara Falls. I do like Canada but, excuse me, I love the States more. Hope, you'll forgive me!

Hi Schizocat,

My cat Tigrou is 3 years old. Sorry for the huge dimensions of the photo that I published on your blog, but Tigrou is a big pet (5,8kg) and he takes many places in my house (and in my life!).
:o)

I appreciate Paris for the activities, Museums, the melting pot. But I feel that living in Paris is too stressful for me.

My two brothers went in Canada (Quebec) on holidays 6 months ago. The temperature was very cold. They were biking by snowmobile and saw many beautiful landscapes. I know you aren’t in the same area that they visited but could you describe me the winter in Vancouver?

Bye
Nicolas

Dear Schizocat! Your nick is cool! Are you really that way? Your English is really very good but doesn't sound like native. Are you from the French part of Canada? As a matter of a fact I know you are. What I have wanted to ask is "Are you Canadian-born?"

I wonder you don't know that there are so many Ukrainians in your country. A half of Torronto is Ukrainian. And there are a great many of my compatriots at other places who have been living on your land for ages. We are really insolent here, in Europe. We are used to say that Canada is a Ukrainian province (Smile!!!! It is humor!). Canada was the only one country that accepted all our immigrants for many years. Ukrainian diaspora in Canada is very powerful. And for you to know our current President is married to a Canadian lady.

Always nice to communicate with you!
