I Am a Tough Cookie

You don’t know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have.

Familiar with that sentence? How strong do you think you are?

Last week, we had guests at home. My old friends came to our house. We had a good time though their 20 months cute daughter couldn’t come. We talked, we laughed and we ate. It was lunch time so of course we ate. It was a memorable moment, but there was something that I will always remember. It was my dad. He has glaucoma since 2005. Had a surgery, but that doesn’t seem to be working for him and so he lives in the dark since then.

Back at lunch time, my dad said, “Come on, eat a lot. I won’t notice.”

Hearing that, we all laughed because obviously he wouldn’t notice. I was also laughing, but inside I realized how great my dad is. He accepted his condition and he can even make fun of it. It takes a very big heart to accept unwanted condition like that and I know it takes years to be like what he is now. I hope wish I can be like my dad. I hope wish I can laugh at whatever it is that made me cry. I hope wish I can also be as strong as he is. Well I have to be tough, so no one will bite another part of my head again :D

Your dad is lucky to have a daughter just like you :) as you said , he needed many years to be as he is now :) so being tough does not come in few seconds or after a day .. you have to go through many things in ur life to learn how to be tough :) aaaaand someone bit ur head coz it was so sweet =P

And you are so lucky that you can still accompany your father until this time! Why so??? Your story has reminded me about my late father. He's passed away because of an accident, and I couldn't even either see or stay beside him when he was suffering since he was hospitalized in Kudus while Mon and I were in Surabaya that time...:(

Syubi, you know well that you are luckier than me...so make every single second being with your father COUNT! and I am sure that your father has a daughter who is as tough as he is.

And I couldn't agree more with that quote...because sometimes we know that we are strong after we could pass the hard moments we have in our lives... NEVER SAY U CAN'T....I CAN MAKE IT, WHY CAN'T U?!

I admire your father very much. He seems to have accepted his fate and submitted to its will. This reminds me of my late grandfather who even told me during his last breath that it was heavenly to die. Maybe, when our time comes we will also feel the true bliss that your father and my grandfather are enjoying now.

In the meantime, like what Yase said, we have to obtained that physical and mental strength in order to survive and proceed with our lives. We live in a tough world .....

Friends can be there for us to lessen the burden that we feel each day to keep us surviving, struggling and fighting...........

Well I don't think I am strong enough as you thought, but lucky me, I am surrounded by people who really do care and love me like you Yase who will always be there to lift me up, cheer me up also reminding me not to do something silly that might hurt me :)

If we can't enjoy life, then what's the meaning of life? As your father did, we should learn to live with our unwanted conditions, and never let them ruin our live.That way, we can overcome obstacles, frustrations, and setbacks.

Tough Cookie, I know you are strong enough not to let small unhappiness let you down and ruin your life...
