Infographic: How to learn English- Blogger Competition

Infographic: How to learn English via Kaplan Blog

Kaplan International shared an infographic and starts a competition for bloggers on how to learn English. It's interesting to see the infographic and to know what other English learners think about how they learn English effectively. I started to know the word 'infographic' these last two years. Some research said that if people create an infographic and post it on their blogs and websites, the readers will be more likely to share it on social networking sites than any types of articles. And I have seen companies made their own infographic and shared it among famous bloggers and indeed, the blog posts got many responses.

When I saw Kaplan's infographic, I think I have been using almost all activities in the infographic to learn English, and there is only one that I haven't done yet: travel to an English speaking country and have English classes with other foreigners. If I have a chance to travel to an English speaking country, I think I will choose Canada. The reason is simple, most of my favorite TV Series and my favorite actress lives there. Maybe if I could travel there and had English classes there, I could have a chance to visit the filming locations and met some of the casts.

The fascinating thing from the infographic is that 65 percent of correspondents thought that traveling to an English speaking country and have classes with other foreigners help them learn English better. I never thought about the important of this way since it is beyond my capability. But, maybe it's the time to start think about it seriously and hope that there is a chance to travel abroad.

For overall, I agree that TV, films, music and video games help people learn English. I remember my friend told me that he improves his English by playing RPG (role-playing game). I learn new slang words, and slang abbreviations by watching popular TV Series. If I want to gain more vocabulary about another category, I just watch different genre of TV Series or movies. Well, let's say I want to know medical terms in English, I just have to switch what I watch from The Vampire Diaries to Grey Anatomy or Dr. House M.D. And I think the same principle works for other media to learn English whether watching films, listening to music, video games, books, etc.

In my opinion, the best way to learn English is using English in our activities in our daily life. Having many chances to use English to communicate with people definitely will make our English improved. Moreover, if the people whom we communicate with are native English speakers.

@ Anau

Thank for your support, Anau. Since there is nothing impossible, let's see what will happen in the future. Anyway, why do you choose Australia? I understand if you choose the USA, but why Australia instead of the UK?

@ Ann

Lol. I was wondering about some results on the infographic, Ann. And my conclusion is that the correspondents of the infographic are not from our generation. I believe they are older than us. Friends was aired when I was a kid and so did The Simpsons. If the respondents were from our generation, the answers would be quite different :)

@ Tara

It's weird if they hadn't received my email. But, I tweeted them a few minutes ago just in case my email never reach them. It's OK, Tara I guess Nina started to be famous in 2010 and mostly among teen because of her TV Series.

I have corrected the sentence again :)

I'm glad you contacted Kaplan. I tweeted it to them too, but they said they hadn't received an email from you. I am ashamed to say that I have never heard of Nina Dobrev.

@ Expector Smith

Thank for your comment, Mr Expector. Your comment encourages me. So, the girl reaches fluency in English less than 5 years? It means staying in English speaking countries to learn English will reduce the time we need and make our learning process more effective. I wish I have a chance to do this, Mr. Expector.

Good job, Ario!

I'm glad you'd choose Canada if you could travel to an English speaking country to learn English. I hope I can go to Canada again soon!

In my opinion, it's the best way to learn English that you travel to an English speaking country and have English classes there. I'll share a real story with you: I met a Chinese girl  who can speak both English and Chinese fluently. She came to Canada with his parents when she was already 15 years of age, and she was a medical student when I met her at the hospital where I was studying.  You bet she must have learned some English before she came to Canada from China. But if she hadn't gone to a medical college in Canada, she couldn't speak English so well. I wish I could speak English as fluently as she do!

@ Tara

Thank Tara for your pray and comment. I hope the other members will enter this competition as well. Win the competition actually is not my primary goal, just to improve my writing. I even think I'm going to vote you after May 12th :)

Right after I published this blog post, I sent a notification Kaplan. I hope the email for was correct. Here, my correction:

Some research said that if people create an infographic and post it on their blogs and websites, the readers will read the infographic and likely to share it on social networking sites than any types of articles.

I hope it's correct :)

I don't know if she is famous in Canada, but she has fans all around the world. She's Nina Dobrev. Have you ever heard about her?
