because people speak English
I am rarely a passenger in someone else's car but the other day I was, and for some reason I noticed a few things during the trip that are interesting (in my opinion) from an English language perspective.
Prince's Street
Sounds the same as...
Princess Street
I also noticed:
Princesses (plural for princess)
Sounds the same as...
Princesses' (possessive for the plural of princess)
I also ntoiced:
Route 123, which in the US is called 'one twenty three' would sound much better as 'one two three'.
When I shared this idea with my friends in the car, we noticed that if you said 'one two three' instead of 'one twenty three', people might not know what you were talking about.
Interesting, no?
