Happy Valentine's Day

I was about to start writing something about this day when unconsciously I started murmuring the lines of the following sonnet by William Shakespeare .It was really a long time ago that I studied it and it came to me as a surprise that I can still recite it by heart. I like reading modern literature but going back to the classics from time to time, is like getting back home after a long journey....or
maybe it's a sign that I 'm growing older.

It may be difficult to get the meaning when you first read it as it was written some 400 years ago. I 've added some vocabulary and explanations to help you.
So tell me in simple English, how should love be according to Shakespeare? Do you agree?Do you find his point of view old fashioned,out of date, or exaggerated ? Or is it that our way of life nowadays doesn't allow to experience romanticism as people used to do in the past? Personally I do believe that such love may be found if we are willing to leave our selfishness behind.

May you all have or find
The kind of love that Shakespeare defines

SONNET 116

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments, love is not love
Which alters when it alternation finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no, it is an even fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his highth be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Vocabulary

Thanks for your effort of adding vocabulary and explanations . It's a nice feeling on women's part to be courted by a romantic guy or i may say to find a romantic lifetime partner that will love you forever,the one that believes in the saying that love conquers all and that true love takes no records of wrong. Happy Valentines Day to yous
