My English Club

Beyond Every Darkness
Looking through a bat’s eye, I felt,
My heart skip a beat or two.
Having no light of a firefly, I griped,
And suddenly nailed my feet stuck.

Rising unawares of upheaval,
Cold feet cloaking me,
I mumbled a weak hello
But what came back
To my ears, a sound
That mirrored mine.

“HELLO? HELLO? HELLO?”

My hair stood erect, for
What seemed like an unexceptional sound
Became an evil chant in the darkness.

“HELLO? HELLO? HELLO?”

I shut my eyes, thinking
It would fly me into the light, thinking
I would hear a finer sound.
But an utter idiot I am, for
It led me into a darker one, a place
Where one only hears
Quietude

Hell of a nightmare, it is
Like cruising to Nowhere Land, seeing
The unseen, hearing
The unheard. I,
Cringing and dubious, sought
Every inch and corner of my mind, a light
That will reveal a trail, a trail
Leading into somewhere bright.

Beads of sweat racing down my face, hearing
None but the shriek of silence, I stepped a foot.
And another. And another. And another.
Until finally I came to realize, I am walking
Because of dauntlessness.

My every step taken,
A star burns out, vanishing
Without leaving trace. Going clapped-out and forlorn,
Sluggish and exasperated, a pebble of light
Loomed my view.

A windy sigh of relief I released, when
I neared the light and discerned
A radiant place, a place
Like Utopia.

That’s then I recalled a catch phrase,
That goes,” What You See Is What You Get.”
But seeing darkness is not it at all, for
Wending through it a reward it will be, for
Beyond every darkness light shines, a light
Cached if not unearthed.
