The following is an .assessment meant for MyEC members

of the group "EC Virtual Class" who are .currently studying

the English Speech Sounds. The study sessions that they

are attending will help them to pronounce all the words .

in .English appropriately. This assessment .covers the .first

six consonant sounds /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/ and /g/
.

Your task: Do all the audio and text based questions.

A. Write down the phonetic symbol of the speech sound illustrated in each

picture. ( You must check the position of the tongue/lips and also see whether the vocal cords vibrate

before deciding what the phoneme is.)

*The sound wave indicates the presence of the vibration of the vocal cords in that speech sound!

B. Record the sound of the phonemes that you have given as your answers.

(Mention the number before you make each sound.)

C. The manner of articulation is the same for all these six speech sounds.

D..The above speech sounds are grouped into three pairs. What are the three

pairs? Also, give sample words for each pair.

However, you'll be given the go-head for the assessment if you could post all the three assignments (or those you haven't posted yet) in a day or two. Please don't think that it is impossible. Guess what! Our JayVee started learning the study sessions just about 20 hours ago and posted all the assignments within three hours. And , guys, her work was "EXCELLENT"

Mitran, I guessed that you exaggerated the situation. Your command of English isn't so bad as you used to say. I understood everything you said. Of course, there're some mistakes in pronouncing words, but we all do them. That's why we're here to improve our pronunciation.

You're lucky, Mitran, that you're just on time to practise the sounds that you fail to pronounce. These sounds are: /s/ mainly in the end of the words, and the sounds /θ/ and /ð/. A lot of people of different nationalities have problems with these sounds. So, now simply try to do all the audio assignments regularly and try to follow the steps in my blog "Some practical steps to acquire good pronunciation". And then everything will be ok.

By the way, I love your real name. I read some fairy-tale about a beautiful princess and her name was Thuong. Good luck!Hope to see you next time with your audio assignment.
