MyEnglishClub is a community that shares and learns together.

We also try to have fun communicating. A big part of the success of this community is being able to make friends.

It is important to make friends.

PRIVACY SETTINGS can keep you from making friends.  Privacy and community do not go well together in my opinion. Here are the best privacy settings to use:

Here are the two most important things to keep open:

1. Visibility-

Your profile page, your blog and photos need to be kept open to - Anyone

If we can't see you and read about you we are not going to become your friends. Without friends you will not improve as well as you could.  Friends keep us motivated. Friends keep us happy. Friends help us.

2. Moderation-

Comments should be open to - Anyone

When someone adds a comment on my profile or my blog- Publish it immediately

Why on earth would you want to prevent comments from members? We are supposed to love comments. Comments are helpful and motivating. That is why we have friends. That is why this is called social media.

I feel like it is rude to moderate comments. When I leave a comment on your page and it doesn't show because it is being moderated, I can't check spelling or even delete it if I change my mind.

If I come back later and wonder if I thanked you for your comment I won't be able to see it. I may have tried to leave it from my phone, but now can't tell if it worked or not.

You should probably keep your moderation set like the example below. If you want to make friends you will be better off to do this. I am not going to bother too much with someone who wants to be unreachable or thinks they are better than the other members.

So don't expect to get a lot of friends if you hide from everyone or if you make us wait when we want to leave you a comment. I don't need to be friends with people who don't want to be a friendly part of the community.

Don't angry when someone is moderating comments, it could be an accident.  Just leave them a second comment telling them what they are doing.

They may not understand this especially if they are new. You could even leave them a link to this blog so they see how to change their settings.

I agree with you!

Hi Mr Bob!

I agree with you, but for specific blogs, for example, test blogs or puzzle blogs, it is better the comments would not be published immediately and the choice " wait for my approval" is ticked.

I agree with you Mr. Bob.
I have just commented on Samu's blog, I was shocked to see that it was administered (Blocked),
It gives me feeling of unworthiness.

@ Expector, Ina, Flowersong and Estanis - I am not surprised you agree because it is frustrating. I usually don't ever try to visit a page again when I meet these problems.

Many members don't know that their privacy settings are turning other people away or they would change them. My blog is to educate them on this.

Xyzabc's page is private, you must be friends to see... This tells me someone thinks they are better than everyone else or they are so afraid that they shouldn't even use the internet.

I strongly agree with you.  I do really believe that there is no true privacy in media and since we chose to be part of it by ourselves, it is our responsiblity to join this wide world and use it wisely. In my point of view, it is always a good idea to set boundaries from the beginning, so that we can share bunch of things with others and at the same time we can not share other stuff.  So the whole matter depends only on how we use things!.  Anyway, why should we have to miss the chance to communicate with the world that truely welcome us :D !

Thanks Mr Bob for sharing that with us!

@ Nina - you can always make a photo private from the moment you add it or make it for friends only. But if it is something that shouldn't be seen maybe it is best to keep it on your own computer. I suggest making the settings I showed and of course you can hid an individual photo or video. I just want people to find other people so they can meet and be friends.
So I think you and I agree friends are important :)

I agree :)

its really good to make friends but i think a little bit privacy is not a bad thing too, especially about pictures and videos.undoubtedly you have to be positive and open to different kind of people but not all the people are of the same kind!and sometimes it takes time to learn about a person.on the other hand i believe that we have to share appropriate pictures and videos suitable with the community we are in.in this way, you're completely on the right track!about the comments,i do agree...i try to follow:)))

thank you.

The Best

You are correct Mr. Bob. Sometimes it puts me off from commenting or reading further blogs by certain members because of their settings. I know it's their rights to set it as they want it to be, but like Expector Smith said, it can be so frustrating.
