TODAY is Blue Monday, the single most depressing day of the year.

The Monday of the last week in January was first named 'Blue Monday' in 2005.

And it is said that a British "psychologist and life coach" has got a mathematical equation to support the idea that today is the gloomiest day of the year.  His formula uses variables including levels of debt, time since Christmas, bad weather, low motivational levels and "time since failing our new year's resolutions"  to identify the bleakest day of the year.

Despite its origins, Blue Monday has become a favorite story for journalists to fill their columns on this day of January.

But, the whole concept is purely a public relations tactic originally used to sell vacations. Many say that that formula is just 'Bad Science'.

So, how are feeling today? If down, blame it on Blue Monday. To me, all Mondays are the same and chances that I feel down on any of them are equal.

Hello Faraz!

Nice blog! But I don't agree with you.. I love Monday, and I wish it will be my lucky day!

Blue Monday?!
Oh! Interesting! I've heard this name just now!
Really thanks for sharing.
And I really liked the scientific information about it.

Read a similar report on BBC on the eve of the so called Blue Monday. For me, it was a pretty normal day. Didn't feel depressed or like. I agree that above idea is just "bad science".

Glad that everybody survived yesterday, well almost. ...I myself had a series of funny things happening one after the other at work. The worst was the laying off of two of our nice co-workers. For them, yesterday was really Blue.

I totally forgot that yesterday was Blue Monday. That explains why I had a bad day! :) It all started with my son not being able to find the perfect underwear in his drawer. He is so picky. Then, on the way to school a little girl threw her empty juice box container on someone's lawn. I was disgusted. When her older brother did the same thing a few seconds later, I had to speak up! I grabbed the trash and handed it to the boy (his father was right there with his kids and did nothing to stop them from littering). I said, "You dropped your garbage." The man said, "That's not nice," to his son. Then I told the  man that his daughter did the same thing. Did he make her march back and pick it up? Nope. Their whole lawn is always full of trash. This makes me so sad! But, I remembered this important quote: "It takes a village to raise a child".
