Costs 'an arm and a leg' - Means, very expensive

Don't 'put all your eggs in one basket' - Means, don't put all your resources in one place

I think one of the funniest things for person that learn new language is to directly translate idioms from one language into another. When I find new idiom I searching high and low as long as I find what that means. Just a shot in the dark in that case its bad idea. And the only way to learn idioms is learning them by heart.
One of my favourite idioms is: "see pink elephants". The meaning is: to see things which are not really there, because they are only in your imagination.
Thanks for topic!
