writing challenge:what is life?

What is life?

Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci and Vasco de Gama. Though you guys know well about them, Once again I wish to remind you what they did.

In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed further west into the Atlantic Ocean and discovered islands. Columbus thought he had found the East Indies. There he did a little more exploring and then returned to Spain, possibly taking syphilis with him.

But by 1502, Amerigo Vespucci had figured out that Columbus was wrong, and Europe came to know about that “NEW LAND” America.

In 1498, Vasco de Gama reached the actual East India by sailing around Southern Africa.

Hope many of you guys would wonder and even few of you would scold me too, for why am talking about these land exploration history under the topic of “What is life”.

Actually I do see the human life as a similar exploration but with different goals. Yes of course we have so many goals to achieve in our single life. But sometimes some people are not strived enough or lucky enough to reach their goals. Like who also did participate in the “New land” exploration game and disappeared.

Here I like to compare the event of human baby coming out from her mother’s ovary and a sailor stepping in to the ship. There the journey starts. At that point know one can’t say how their life or sailing would be. If the weather favors, the sailor could enjoy the journey. Else #@#!#.  Similarly if the infant got an experienced/careful mother, see could be pleasant. Else see has to cry more to get attention.

Also you can enjoy your sailing, if you are the Caption or other important person in that ship. Similarly the quality of life depends on the roll you are plying in your life. Here I didn’t mean the roll given to you by others. I am talking about the one which is always coming out from the depths of you heart while you doing your work.

While Columbus sailed to find India, he landed in some “New Land”. He didn’t succeed in his goal like Vasco de Gama. But his name got embedded in human history than Vasco de Gama. Similarly even if you can’t achieve your goal, it’s not end. You would get more than that.

The most important thing is how your activities impact others? That is also the part of your life. Columbus arrival "marked the beginning of one of the cruelest episodes in human history," as historian Kenneth C. Davis puts it. We know well about the life of Nelson Mandela and Osama bin laden. Both are struggled for the same goal, empowerment of their community. But in different ways, the impact of their actions also differs in lot and sitting in two opposite ends.  We know who won.

Hi Estanis, How are you...

Thank you for your review...

Surely I am not comparing two different people’s attributes, but I am comparing the two different attitudes towards the empowerment of their community.

Hi Pugal,

Good comparison between a baby and a sailor, I like it although not as much between Bin Laden and N. Mandela, do you really think bouth are comparable? I strongly disagree or maybe I don't understand what you mean.

A nice comparison about exploring new worlds with our daily lives/journey. You are right, some of us get all the luck in the world, and some don't. But like you said, how we left our impact is more important.

Nice blog.

Interesting post! It's great to see so many MyEC bloggers weighing in on this topic.

Re corrections:

Check your spelling of "captain" (may be a typo).  Also, note that you don't need to capitalize captain unless you are referring to a specific one:

The angry Captain Jones told the pirate to walk the plank.

Where is the captain of the ship?
