"The Chaos!" - A poem about English by Gerard N. Trenité - American English Pronunciation

This is a fun poem about the chaos of the English language, but you'll want to pull your hair out in frustration by the end of it! Don't worry about understanding the poem - there is no meaning! It's just a fun collection of many of the ridiculous irregularities of English spelling! Just listen to the pronunciation. Most native speakers would have difficulty pronouncing all these words, so don't worry if you find it difficult.

No, Anele! That's not my advice! This is a poem written by Gerard N. Trenité and he included that last line to make the poem rhyme. I do not advise anyone to give up studying English!

A lot of these words are difficult even for native speakers, Robbie! Don't worry about trying to understand every word of the poem - most native speakers don't even know all these words! I had to research many of these words.

Remember, everyone, the point of this video is not the vocabulary! It's just a fun poem that shows you the chaos of English pronunciation & spelling!

Wow! Great presentation! A wealth of vocabularies are real treasure. Thank goodness, the EC dictionary app is very useful here. My tongue was twisted a lot, but I enjoyed practicing those words. Maybe I should give up.....he he he.

Thanks for sharing this video, Teacher Melanie! : )

Well, Thuonghuynh ... most native speakers don't even understand the poem! It's just to show how English spelling often doesn't match the pronunciation of the word! So, don't worry about understanding the poem! I didn't even know some of these words the first time I read this poem. You can read the words as I say them & match the pronunciation to the words.

Hi, Yasemin & Ohnie!
You're right - most native speakers have trouble with a lot of these words! I had to look up the pronunciation of a lot of words in the dictionary. I did this to show people that it's OK if you get frustrated with English, because even native speakers think it's a crazy language!

Very nice, Teacher Melanie.  Indeed, I had difficulty in pronouncing a lot of words.  I just didn't realized that there are different versions of this poem.
